Hanging art in the bathroom might feel out of place, but it’s a great way to add color, texture and visual interest to a room that’s enjoyed throughout the day.

Bright and airy, this coastal bathroom sets the standard for casual coastal style coupled with traditional elements. With a neutral color palette and an abundance of natural light, the room beckons for leisurely bubble baths and efficient morning routines.

Designer Kate Lester of Kate Lester Interiors took on the remodel of this home, pulling together a traditional and clean design.

Au Naturel Bath

Marble counters top a white double vanity that stretches across the wall opposite the entry—creating a chic, clean and traditional anchor for the room.

A closer look reveals that the cut end of the backsplash mimics the trim at the base of
the cabinet; its simple arched design plays into the traditional aesthetic. This timeless base coordinates with the overall look of the home, but can be easily updated as preferences change.

The faucets for the double sinks mirror the large-scale one that fills the bathtub, which takes full advantage of the fresh coastal air let in by a pair of sash windows.

vanity mirrors
Stand out! Add a layer to your design by opting for mirrors that are not mounted flat against the wall. These mirrors can be angled for optimal lighting when getting ready.

Brushed silver adds a subtle sheen to door handles, sconces, mirror frames and faucets, helping to tie every inch of the large and long bathroom together.

With a tile surround and a large basin, this oversized tub welcomes a luxurious soak. When selecting fixtures, make sure to coordinate the faucets for a pulled-together look.

Easy Accents

The simple space is accented by touches of nature. From an olivewood tray that corrals bath essentials to fresh blooms on the vanity, small details break up the hard, crisp materials to create a soothing environment. A sisal runner, wooden stool and natural-fiber Roman shade add a sense of warmth and texture, but can stand up to the daily use and moisture of a bathroom.

To add color to the serene design without losing the calming effects of a neutral palette, opt for a large-scale piece of art. Here, a blue piece hung over the bathtub adds the perfect dose of color while keeping with the design’s calm, traditional aesthetic.
